Happy Nurses Week

NICU nurse holding Kolin (2019)
NICU nurse holding Kolin (2019)

I am grateful for every classmate, professor (Drexel University and George Washington University), colleague who stood in the trenches with me, and mentors who helped guide my nursing career. đź’ś

I’m grateful for the L&D nurse who cared for me after Vinson died.... she held my hand, gently cleaned my baby up, took photos, and made hand and footprints that I will treasure forever.....and placed him in my arms.

I am grateful for every NICU nurse who cared for, held, and read to Kolin during his 183-day NICU stay. They are the ones who kept me sane during our NICU stay.

I am grateful for every PICU nurse who has cared for our family over the past 6.5 years, through more hospital stays than I can count.

I’m grateful for the school nurses who have cared for Kolin over the past 4 years, helping make it possible for him to safely attend school. Not only do they tend to Kolin's medical needs, they "see" him as a person.

Neither Kolin nor I would be who we are today without the nurses who have stood in the gaps for us over the years. Nurses have shaped our story in more ways than I can count. Their compassion, advocacy, skill, and kindness have carried us through some of the hardest moments of our lives.
